The main goal of this study was to determine the predictive value of personality traits of extraversion, neuroticism, and conscientiousness to different types of work motivation, conceptualized based on the Self- Determination theory (SDT). Personality traits were measured with the Big Five plus Two questionnaire, while motivation types were determined using the Types of Work Motivation Scale. The sample (N = 230) was comprised of teachers in primary and secondary schools in urban areas. Results suggest that personality traits significantly predict all types of motivation, as well as amotivation of schools’ teachers. Extraversion significantly predicted intrinsic motivation to experience stimulation and extrinsic motivation by regulation. Conscientiousness significantly predicted extrinsic motivation by introjection and identification as well as intrinsic motivation to know and to experience stimulation, while neuroticism was a significant predictor of the lack of work motivation, extrinsic motivation by external regulation and by introjection. Research results contribute to our understanding of motivated behavior in general, and set the basis for examining a contribution of personality dispositions to work motivation.Metrics
