Plagiarism policy
Plagiarism is the violation of copyright law, which refers to the following forms of academic dishonesty:
- Using any content, such as sentences or items without appropriate and unambiguous attribution;
- Using figures, tables, equations, or illustrations without permission of the author(s);
- Using psychological instruments without permission of the author(s);
- Submitting a manuscript that was originally published in another language;
- Submitting a manuscript that was originally published in another journal;
- Self-plagiarism, such as reuse of parts of text from the author's previous publication, without appropriate and unambiguous attribution;
- „Salami slicing“, such as adding new parts to a previously published study and submitting as a new manuscript.
Avoiding plagiarism
Since plagiarism can happen unintentionally, Primenjena psihologija strongly recommends authors to perform a thorough check of the manuscript content before submitting it for publication. If any part of a previously published paper is being reused, it is necessary to unambiguously cite the original publication. When authors use tables, images or psychological instruments protected by copyright, the permission of the copyright holder is required and should be attached during the manuscript submission process.
Describing the psychological measures or procedures applied in a previously published article is permitted if a manuscript based on a new study is submitted.
When authors would like to submit manuscript based on doctoral dissertation or master’s thesis, it is more appropriate to acknowledge it in the author note, instead of citing their dissertation or thesis in the manuscript.
Plagiarism detected prior publishing
All submitted manuscripts are checked for plagiarism before starting review. Primenjena psihologija uses iThenticate software to detect plagiarism. Based on the percentage of plagiarized parts, the editorial board makes one of the following decisions:
- Return the manuscript to the corresponding author for correction of plagiarized parts (<5% plagiarized parts);
- Return the manuscript to the corresponding author for content revision (5 - 30% plagiarized parts);
- Reject the manuscript without peer-review (>30% plagiarized parts).
Plagiarism detected after publishing
Plagiarism can be detected after the article has been published in several ways:
- The institution in which the author is affiliated discovered the author's academic dishonesty and sent the information to the Editorial Board of Primenjena psihologija.

- A published article containing plagiarism will obviously be marked on each page of the PDF (5 - 30% plagiarized parts);
