Despite its popularity and wide usage across various cultural contexts, findings on its structural invariance are seldom and inconsistent. This study was aimed to investigate its psychometric properties, mainly the structural validity of the CSI, in a sample of young people in Serbia. The research was organized by conducting two studies. In Study 1 (N = 327) an exploratory factor analysis was used to evaluate the construct validity of the scale. In Study 2 on a student sample of the University of Novi Sad (N = 1249), a confirmatory factor analysis was used to further evaluate the scale`s construct validity. Neither exploratory nor confirmatory factor analysis succeed in replicating the original structure of the scale. The results of EFA suggested a high diversity of the Avoidance subscale. The results of CFA suggested shortening of the Problem Solving and Seeking Social Support subscales, from 11 to 6 items. For the Avoidance subscale, the most adequate was a bifactor model containing 8-item loadings on a general avoidance factor, with Distraction, Illusioning and Isolation as specific components. We can conclude that this Serbian adaptation of the CSI tends to be a valid and reliable instrument for assessing coping strategies. On the other hand, future research should further evaluate validity of the instrument and particularities within avoidant coping behavior across various samples and areas in more detail.}, number={3}, journal={Primenjena psihologija}, author={Žuljević, Dragan and Jovanović, Veljko and Gavrilov Jerković, Vesna}, year={2015}, month={Oct.}, pages={265–288} }
